Being a new mom with Type 1 diabetes isn’t easy.
Night feedings, playtime, meal prep… and blood sugar checks. The days are full (and the nights even more so), and sometimes it feels like there’s barely time to breathe — let alone manage a chronic condition.
But here’s the truth: while it’s not always perfect, I’ve found ways to stay grounded, fueled, and (mostly) in control.
Here’s what helps me:
- Planning meals in advance so I don’t crash when the baby needs me most
- Keeping fast-acting sugar nearby — in the diaper bag, by the bed, even in the stroller
- Using tech like CGM and insulin pens to simplify and stay ahead
- Giving myself grace on tough days
- Celebrating the little wins — like getting through the day without a scary low
Some days are messy. Some days are magic. But every day, I remind myself I’m doing my best — for me and for my baby.
If you’re navigating motherhood and Type 1, know this: you’re not alone, and you’re stronger than you think.
